Simple action items to help Mom-Nature - Green Tips

August 18th, 2008 · 8 Comments

We’ve heard and talked a lot about global warming and we all know the potential effects not only to Mother nature but also to our self. However how many of us takes the initiative to help! Many would say, “How much difference can a person make?”. The answer is – A LOT, at least more than you think you are. As simple as bringing a cloth / recycle bag each time you shop is already making a HUGE difference. With that, you also raise awareness and remind those around you whether you know them or not … I started using recycle bags after I saw a couple carrying their grocery items in the recycle bag that they brought along - in a way … it made me ponder and the idea stuck.

Now … less talking more action. The list below are some suggestion that you can get yourself started …

  • Use energy saving fluorescent light bulbs – a decent light bulb last for quite some time and saves $$$ in the long run
  • Replace old appliances
  • Unplug un-used electronics – especially our stereos, Astro decoder
  • Turn off your computer – Streamyx is unlimited, electricity is not!
  • Inflate your car / motorcycle tires – Saves petrol
  • Change your car’s air filter
  • Clean your air conditioner filter
  • Use recycled paper
  • Take shorter showers – Less bubble bath
  • Buy local products – minimize imported goods transportation cost and support local industry
  • Buy minimally packaged goods – what matters is the actual item right?
  • Buy a low and efficient fuel consumption car, if possible a hybrid car
  • Buy organic food
  • Carpool!
  • Don’t idle in the car – get down the car to wait
  • Reduce garbage
  • Eat less meat
  • Avoid using plastic disposable bottles – Bring your own bottles

*some items are adopted from StopGolbalWarming.Org

It’s all a matter of getting use to … back in the old days, our grandparents didn’t use any plastic bags – they did not complain. Any reason to complain now?

Animals produces a lot of methane, a very potent greenhouse gas. As you know methane are gasses that traps heat hence causing global warming. I wouldn’t want to point all fingers on animals, but if we could opt for a diet low in animal proteins could make a difference in the fight against climate change.
