One man’s meat is another man’s poison

March 23rd, 2008 · 6 Comments

I’ve just attended a seminar yesterday and one of the key speaker, a representative from eBay said that the first item that was sold in Malaysia since the launch was a broken light pointer. Believe me, my expression was exactly the same as you have right now … who in a sane mind buy a broken item? Well according to their investigation they said that the owner had a broken light pointer too and needed another one as a spare part to fix his pointer. Isn’t this an interesting and unique case of trade? I guess the seller was just testing out eBay and luck was on his side. But before you dash to your attic and store room to find any junks to sell, my guess is … this is probably a rare occurrence, however I could be wrong.

The most expensive item that was traded by a Malaysian in eBay was surprisingly a second hand Proton Perdana at approx RM 25k ++. The new owner is in UK however and we all wondered what the delivery method is. Of course in everyone’s mind … who buys a Perdana these days?!?!?

You see, the phrase “One man’s meat is another man’s poison” definitely applies here. Who knows what you are desperately trying to discard is needed by another person. Personally I’ll probably think of something to sell on eBay just to get the feel of it and who knows what you’ll come across!

On the bare minimum, all you need is your computer, internet connection and a visa credit card (for validation purposes) to trade in eBay. If you trade in eBay Malaysia there will not be any listing fee, trading in UK / US / Aust etc will cost you a minimum 15cent per item (depending on cost per item).

Of course there are local eBay like-sites such as lelong.com but according to statistic, eBay is perhaps the biggest player around!

FYI, I am not an employee of eBay or particularly promoting them hehehe, this is just a sharing from the seminar that I’ve attended.

Just to add on, if you read today’s newspaper … a guy bought a corn flake that looks like the shape of United States for RM 2k ++ on eBay. So you see … even A CORN FLAKE sells!
