Kek Lok Si’s ray of lights

February 21st, 2008 · 8 Comments

It’s the final day of Chinese New Year, a 15 days celebration that ends with Chap Goh Meh (the 15th night). I was procrastinating for a while to post up my Kek Lok Si pictures but oh well, if I don’t do it now, it may look so yesterday. Just for the record, without fail every year I visit Kek Lok Si. Strangely I don’t know why, but I guess it’s the only time of the year that it make sense for me to visit this highly commercialized tourist attraction. I suppose I wanted to see the changes in time and to check out the progress of building a roof over Goddess of mercy. The development was rather slow … some say it was due to insufficient fund and they were selling “roof tiles” to help raise fund for approximately 3 or 4 years to date (if my memory hasn’t failed). Anyway, why does the Goddess of mercy needs a roof? Global warming? Fengshui? … it looks like a cage now though …

Anyway I took my pictures on the second day of Chinese New Year – 8th Feb. I guess I picked the wrong day to go … it was drizzling during the “prime” time for photography. Since my camera is not splash proof, I didn’t want to risk it taking pictures under those conditions. Anyway since I am there, with a good parking lot (try getting there at about 6pm) … I stayed on with my photographer friend. Was there until 9-ish pm, could have stayed longer but my stomach was growling ferociously at me hahaha, so before my gastric kicks in – cabut!

Are you sure its cool … i thought you just told me over the phone that its so so only??? Hmph!

Anyway its what we call as starburst effect. To get this effect, you need to put your camera on a tripod, use a slow shutter speed and in the mids of it either zoom in or out of the object / focus point.

The Kek Lok Si building is cool… like the hologram laser light. But this year I didn’t go, a few years ago when I was there, jam in the middle of mountain. So this year one crowded? Got place to park your car ?
