December 27th, 2007 · No Comments

Just a show of hands, when was the last time you’ve been to Mengkuang Dam? Ok how on earth am I suppose to see your hands (if you don’t mind, please comment your “show-of-hand” here). Anyway chances are, probably it was 10 years ago or “Where is Mengkuang dam?” Anyway it is about 30 to 45 minutes from Penang depending on traffic condition on the bridge.

Fast fact, Mengkuang Dam is considered as the biggest dam in Penang. Next to it is the Bukit Mertajam Recreational Forest. According to the locals, there is a waterfall and a splendid view of the Dam after a 30 to 45 min uphill hike. However I didn’t manage to go all the way up there.

At about 5 pm, a lot of families started to flock into the recreational park, either for a leisure walk, jogging, kite flying (it is usually windy at the dam especially in this time of the year), kids running around, feeding the fishes or even wedding studio photography! Well … at certain angle, the dam does provide a good backdrop for photography.

TIP: If you are going there to take some pictures, please bring an all natural mosquito repellent. You won’t want to stand still to take a picture and get bitten at the same time.
