Last Saturday, that is 15 December, the Penang food festival was held in PISA (Penang International Sports Arena). I think it was the second time held in Penang, the previous year if not mistaken was held at upper Penang Road. Finding a parking was a headache back then as it was either far too limited parking in the upper Penang road area or its way too expensive, however in PISA – parking was a breeze.
What about the food?
The waiting time can range between 5 to 30 minutes and you will be lucky if they are not sold out by the time it is your turn. So imagine the crowd, there are hardly any queuing spaces and weaving through the crowds carrying bowls of noodle is extremely hazardous. I manage to savor only Hokkien Mee (Prawn noodles), Chee Cheong Fun, Kuih Talam and Bah Chang (Glutinous rice, take away), all I can say is – NOT NICE. The Hokkien Mee noodles was over cooked, the half an hour (or more) Chee Cheong Fun wait was bland and tasteless, Kuih Talam was average and Bah Chang is … well Bah Chang.
Next I thought I should try my favorite ice kacang, however the queue was like 20 ‘blocks’ long and the stall was right beside the speaker. The stereo was at maximum volume, standing at the other end already gave me a headache, if I stand next to it, I probably might have a permanent ear and brain damage. So that is out. So I thought ok, the Mua Chi at least has to taste good … to my disappointment it is sold out and that is only at 8pm!. So I was like ~ GREAT!!!
I guess when it comes to food; it is never a dull moment for Penang. Come rain or shine or flood ~ there will always be people crowding around FOOD.
