Be paranoid about your safety!

December 3rd, 2007 · No Comments

Just today as my mom and her friends was traveling to Johor Bahru, one of their bags had a small circular cut at the bottom near the wheels. It was very suspicious as it was not the normal wear and tear type of damage. The hole was not big enough to pull something out of it but it is probably sufficient to put something into it. Also at the same time they notice a guy was tail-gaiting them (in the airport it self). The fair looking Indian guy almost followed them into the restroom but thankfully he didn’t as it may be too obvious. Worried that it may be linked to the bag incident, they took the bag and lodge a report on it. I guess it is important that if you noticed your bag has been tempered, it is wise to bring it directly to the luggage department to lodge a report, just incase someone insert some sinister items into your luggage.

This reminds me, a couple months back when I traveled to US. I lost my wallet in either Changi or Seoul Airport. I don’t really know where exactly I lost it, as I didn’t use my wallet through out the flight. I only notice it when I reach my hotel in US. Thankfully my passport is still with me and I separated some cash out of my wallet; however my IC, driving license and credit cards is all gone. It was a little inconvenient after that as I couldn’t drive around (without my driving license) and I could not go for shopping spree (no credit card) but it was still enough for me to pick up quite a few souvenirs back.

So even if you are a frequent traveler, it is always important to be on the alert side for your personal safety and watch your luggage. The worst thing that could happen (apart from you being kidnap), is drug trafficking ~ it is still a death sentence here in Malaysia.

There are so many cases these days, is it the diminishing of moral values or purely desperate time calls for desperate measure. I think the world is just getting “un-safe”. Whatever it is, just be paranoid!
