Did you realize that when we say “Let’s go for a holiday!” the first thing that pops into our mind is usually anywhere but locally? So much that we can talk for hours what the other country have and ours don’t, the grass always greener on the other side huh! No wonder the tourist seems to know more than the locals sometimes.
Well well well … I’ve decided to give my own backyard a chance hahaha, I mean Penang if you still don’t know. Apart from Laksa and Batu Ferringhi, I am quite sure there are other interesting subjects in Penang RIGHT? Well honestly speaking, I don’t really know. In-fact the whole idea was not really about ‘cuti-cuti Penang’ but more of a photography field trip.
As a rookie in photography, practice practice practice is what I needed. I love capturing nature, animals, events and most importantly smiles that warms the heart, that usually ends up in some wacky facial expression ~ priceless. But what started off as a photography outing, quickly turns out to be a cultural and historic trail. The kind of field trip that they should organize for form 3 student to help them in learning the true essence of ‘sejarah’ (history), or at least it will definitely help me from ah hemmm passing the ‘average’ grade. I self organized a heritage trail in Penang.
The Penang Heritage Trust do organizes site visits / heritage trails but me and my troops decided to do it at our own pace. There are mainly two types of trails, but some of the sites was not properly preserved or provided sufficient information hence we decided to skip those (you will later know where). For more information about the Penang Heritage Trust, check out http://www.pht.org.my/
Just a snap shot of what my troop of 5 went two weeks ago …
From trail 1
- Fort Cornwallis
- State Assembly Buildings
- City Hall Town Hall
- Pinang Peranakan Mansion
From trail 2
- Goldsmiths Guild
- King Wan Association
- Hainan Temple
- Cheong Fatt Tze Manion
- Residence of Ku Din Ku meh
Seriously it’s supposed to be just a small stop here and there and yet we loiter around from early morning to evening and mostly by foot!
Believe it or not, I still haven’t got time to sort through all my pictures YET. I was supposed to set up a photo blog, but again ~ no time. Anyway I will update my blog about the places in batches and tell you what we love or purely “urgh”.
Picture title: Civilization in man kind …
Can you guess where did i take this picture? Ummm i dont read chinese so what it says there is probably the biggest TIP!
