Have you ever had a dream that you were flying? Flying and gliding in mid air, cruising away as the law of gravity pulls you down. Suspended in mid air where everything else below you seems superficial. The adrenalin rush that pushes you out of the norm …
I have … and its not a dream.
I guess you are wondering, what the heck are you talking about? … Frankly speaking, I used to be a person who needs proper planning, I am rigid and I get stuck to a certain pattern, in other words habit. Because of that, I tend to be a little stubborn for what is planned for is the only ideal way. For those who understands me well, knows what I am talking about. I don’t really move out of my comfort zone, the most I guess I will stick one of my feet out and the rest is still within the boundaries. As soon as I lose sight of my base or lifted off the ground, I tend to be paranoid or behave erratically and that stresses me out a lot.
Well, that has change significantly in this eventful year … the list is rather long, hence I’ve selected one of it that may interest you the most and hopefully someday you would give it a try as well.
There is a mixture of you guys out there who either dares to go on a roller coaster or not. I … as surprise as it may seem to most people (reasons that are still unknown), I belong to the group that chicken out on any rides that goes at a heart wrenching speed or simply breaks the ‘Newton’s law of universal gravitation. That has all changed. For the first time in my life I dared my self to break all rules, I clearly notice that I seriously need to embrace that fear. I jump off the plane …
It was the smallest plane I’ve ever sat on my entire life. The width was only 2 passengers wide and the maximum capacity was only 9. With no seating, seats belt etc, I sat only on bare floor. Taking off the runway and soar to the sky, the view was nothing less than Awesome (with a capital A), the lakes, rivers and snow capped mountains completely takes my breath away. With the holistic view up above, everything looks minuscule, even the sheep looks merely like white dots sprinkled around. Truly a bird’s eye view!
Approximately at the height of Mount Cook (the highest mountain In New Zealand), I took a leap of faith and plunge from the sky. Sitting at the side of the plane, with the speed of wind at 200kph blowing at me … my last thought was “HOLY SH**”. It was the first time in my life that there was nothing in my mind, nothing matters anymore – I had to let go of my fear and jumpppppp. So quietly off I go and slide out of the plane, everything was so quiet, I could only hear the sound of wind and the beating of my heart – dub dub dub dub dub … I somersaulted.
I can’t remember if I turned once or twice, everything happened so fast. By the time I know it, I am already spreading my arms (no wings in this case apart from the oversized triceps) and I soared like an eagle. Surprisingly I did not scream or close my eyes. In-fact for most of the time I tried to close my mouth, at that speed, I was practically saying cheeseeee all the way!
I was not terrified at all, in-fact I was enjoying the free fall terminal velocity speed, if I know how physics work I would probably break the speed limit. The whole experience was only approximately between 5 to 10 minutes, it is both the fastest and the longest moment in my life. Being almost on top of the world, I’ve realize that what ever problem anyone may have, when you step away and take a look at the big picture, it is going to look like a microscopic sheep (in this case a black sheep).
I’ve lived to tell the tale and truly experienced the meaning of The Moment … have you?
