Ng Kee’s Egg tart - Cintra Street

November 2nd, 2007 · 4 Comments

I am the type of person that needs dessert after a meal. Hence one day after lunch, a friend suggested ~ How about an Egg Tart? … From my experience I don’t think I’ve had any really good egg tart in Penang before, so my expression was … ‘emmmm’ and I looked skeptical. Anyway I gave it a chance.

If you are one of those who roam around the older parts of Penang, you would have probably notice this shop. The shop name is Ng Kee Cake Shop located somewhere in Cintra Street. All egg tarts are freshly made daily hence, taste wise is slightly better than pasar malam. I wanted to try the Portuguese egg tart; however it was not available then.

My verdict: I am a big fan of flaky / fluffy crust egg tart so Ng Kee’s egg tart wasn’t a knock out for me and the content wasn’t creamy / eggy enough. Anyway, if I happen to pass by the place again I may consider buying it … it’s a good tea break for my fellow gorger colleagues (MUAHAHAHA).

I too prefer the flaky pastry egg tarts which I can only find in dim sum outlets. The ones found at Ng Kee don’t really do the trick for me.

Actually dim sum outlet quality varies too, they usually taste good only when they are fresh from the oven.
